Mr and Mrs W, who are residents at Hargrave House care home near Stansted, Essex, celebrated an incredible 74 years together this Valentine’s Day.
The couple met in Guernsey in 1951, following Mr W’s service in the RAF as a flight air traffic controller during World War Two. They married five years later and made their home in Chigwell, going on to welcome two daughters into their lives.
As well as nurturing their family and enjoying home life, the couple shared a love of travel which took them around the world.
When the time came to think of downsizing and planning for their retirement years, Mr and Mrs W moved into Hargrave House care home together, finding joy in the new friendships they have built and continuing to share activities and create new memories together.
This Valentine’s Day, the couple celebrated an incredible 74 years together. As they looked back on their journey, they shared their secrets to enduring love. “It’s about kindness, patience and sharing a sense of humour,” said Mr W.
His wife agrees: “Our love is a reminder that true companionship is about more than just shared years; it’s about continuing to find joy in each other every single day,” she said.
