In a heartwarming initiative to promote Mental Health awareness, the Mayor of Waltham Abbey, Shane Yerrell, recently visited Bullsmoor Lodge care home in Enfield. The visit was a highlight of “Wear It Green for Mental Health,” a week-long series of activities organised by the staff to emphasize the significance of mental well-being for both residents and staff.
During his visit, Mayor Yerrell enjoyed breakfast with the residents and staff, engaging in meaningful conversations about the various support networks available for mental health. He stressed the importance of not only looking after one’s own mental health but also being vigilant about the well-being of others. “Reaching out and talking to someone can make a world of difference,” he said. “No one should suffer in silence.”
One resident shared, “The fact that the mayor had time to sit and listen was amazing.” A family member of another resident added, “It made my mum smile and offered me support, which goes a long way.”
The week concluded with soothing Namaste sessions for the staff, featuring relaxing head, hand, and arm massages. This initiative fostered a supportive community environment, highlighting the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and raising awareness for mental health. A staff member expressed, “I wasn’t going to speak out, but I felt safe and comfortable to talk about my worries and was relieved that I wasn’t the only person in the room feeling this way.”
The care home remains dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where mental health is a priority, ensuring everyone feels heard and supported.
