Millway House, a care home in Andover, unveiled their newly created sensory garden during a morning coffee event attended by residents, staff, and members of the local community. This vibrant new space, made possible through a generous donation from the Andover Baptist Church, offers a sanctuary designed to enhance the well-being of its residents.
The garden features an array of sensory plants, a calming water feature, and a specially crafted memory wall dedicated to the cherished memory of past residents. This beautiful addition to the care home serves as both a therapeutic environment and a place of reflection for residents and their families.
The official opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Test Valley, Ian Jeffrey, who cut the ribbon alongside residents Jean and Graham. “The Mayoress and I were thrilled to join residents and staff for the opening of the wonderful, new Sensory Garden. It will be a welcome space for residents and their families to enjoy”.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a troupe of Morris dancers performed a traditional show enjoyed by residents, locals and all the staff. Sarah Holland, Wellbeing and Activities Coordinator at Millway House said,
“We are incredibly grateful to the Andover Baptist Church for their kind donation that made this garden possible. It is a wonderful addition to our home, providing a space where our residents can connect with nature, engage their senses, and find peace and comfort. The memory wall within the garden stands as a poignant tribute to former residents, allowing their stories and legacies to live on in the hearts of our community”.
The donation of £700 used to fund the project was raised by the Andover Community Church. Minister Alex Pugh said “We are so pleased to be able to support this project that is so beneficial for the wellbeing of the residents at Millway House”.
Millway House Care Home, part of the AgeCare group, invites everyone to visit and experience the sensory garden. Situated on the outskirts of Weyhill near Andover, Millway House offers excellent accommodation for nursing, dementia, and end of life care.
