Digital Transformation in the Care Sector

30 August 2024

Last year we introduced a major digital transformation programme across our nine homes, most of which prior to this, were operating on a paper-based system.

With increasing costs, it was crucial that we became more efficient in the running of our homes so that we could add value in areas where it was most needed and also provide systems that ensured more comprehensive and improved care and environments for our residents.

Founder and Chief Executive Dr Vishen Ramkisson has spearheaded the digital overhaul, commenting: “I’d like to think AgeCare will be at the forefront of transforming the way care is being delivered in the UK. That is our mission statement. We are here to transform the delivery of care and make it more sustainable and environmentally friendly but also to give time back to residents.”

We are continuing to embed the use of Person Centred Software, a digital care planning system that enables staff to evidence all aspect of care, including creating and managing person-centred care plans, risk assessments and many other aspects so that we all have instant access to individual care plans.

This ensures better care for each resident and more time for our staff to spend on adding value to day-to-day life by engaging in activities and other pastimes with those living in our homes.

We have also introduced the PainChek app. This uses a combination of facial recognition and annually entered data to assess an individual’s pain level and guide pain relief strategies. It can help identify the presence of pain even when it is not obvious. This app integrates with both Pain Centred Software and Nourish, enhancing our care planning further.

Nourish is another platform for planning and recording care that allows us better visibility of our care services and the ability to track and monitor trends and changes on an individual level.

We have continued the rollout of RADAR, an accredited risk, quality and compliance software which is helping us transform our processes and communications into a streamlined and centralised approach.

We have also developed our own AgeCare in-house maintenance recording system and a manager monthly report system, both of which have now been launched and are working well.

Combining human skills and intuition with the latest technology means we can improve the quality of care for our residents. Always our first and foremost objective.

Investing in technology makes it easier for our staff to carry out their roles in an efficient and proactive way, making them happier and more confident in their day-to-day tasks and providing improved care and facilities for all our residents.
