Residents and staff at Woodbury Manor care home in Enfield took time to think about their emotional wellbeing in a series of group activities and self-care sessions to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.
In England, it’s estimated that one in four people experience a mental health problem each year*, while in the workplace stress, depression and anxiety account for 46% of all work-related ill-health cases**. Mental Health Awareness Week encourages open conversations about mental health aimed at reducing stigma and promoting a culture of support and inclusion.
Throughout the week, both staff and residents were asked to think about what they felt thankful for in their life. There were nature walks, art sessions, movie afternoons and religious services, and the week was rounded off with a coffee morning, followed by pampering facials and massages from skin therapist Mala.
“We also invited dementia specialist Jon Jones from Enfield’s NHS Care Home Assessment Team to give a talk to our team about coping with stress and how to improve mental health generally,” said Valentine.
Woodbury Manor, which is owned and operated by AgeCare Care Homes, has 59 bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities, and a specialist dementia wing. With four acres of mature gardens, it is located close to Enfield town centre.
