Residents and staff at Nayland House care home, Nayland Village, Colchester, enjoyed a cake and a cuppa recently while raising money for a great cause.
The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation asked supporters to hold a ‘Tea 4 Tom’ event to raise much-needed funds to help teenagers and young adults diagnosed with cancer.
The foundation was started by Nikki and Richard Bowdidge in 2014 to honour their son, Tom, who died from a rare form of cancer aged just 19. It was Tom’s last wish that he could raise money to help other teenagers and young adults diagnosed with cancer. The Foundation set up in his name provides emotional, financial and practical support for young people aged 13-24 and their families throughout the UK. It also funds research and raises awareness.
Care home manager, Emma Engutsamy, was delighted to put on a handsome spread for the Nayland House Tea 4 Tom event. She said: “Everyone had such a lovely time. Copious amounts of tea and cake were happily consumed and as a result we raised £137.53 for The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation.
“The charity is very close to our hearts, as it’s based in Colchester, and we couldn’t be more supportive of what they do.
“It was more than a tea party – it brought joy to our residents and supported a truly meaningful cause.”
Fundraising Lead at the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation, Lindsay Hurrell, said: “We would like to thank the staff and residents at Nayland House care home for hosting a Tea 4 Tom. This is an annual event that we would like people to get involved in, to help raise much-needed funds. The charity is being impacted daily by applications for support from individuals and their families due to the cost-of-living crisis. We are always keen to raise awareness and welcome people to hold fundraising events for us so we can continue providing the service that we do.
